Why Eat Grass-Fed Beef?

Grass-fed beef is much higher in the beneficial Omega 3 fatty acids (good for the heart), higher in CLA (nature’s anti-carcinogen) and has up to four times more vitamin E than conventional grain-fed beef. Our cattle are only fed grass. They never receive grain, antibiotics or added growth hormones. NEVER. EVER. To ensure that each bite is perfect we dry-age our meat. Dry-aging is an ancient practice that maximizes flavor and tenderness without chemicals or additives of any kind. All this makes for the cleanest, tastiest beef one can buy!

What Type of Cattle?

We’ve identified an ancient breed of cattle that perfectly fits the bill for today’s beef lover. Christopher Columbus brought these cattle here to the New World on his second journey in 1493, courtesy of the Spanish King and Queen. These cattle quickly “went native” and became the indigenous cattle found thriving in various climates from the southern U.S. all the way to the tip of South America. For over 500 years they’ve been providing lean, tasty beef out of nothing more than grass and water! They are naturally healthy, hardy, athletic and tasty and they are the inspiration for Good Land Grass-Fed Beef.

They go by many names, but are often called Corriente, Criollo or Longhorn. We simply call them Spanish cattle. Their athletic ability, on par with a wild animal, is what gives the meat its deep, red color (that’s from the extra high level of red meat cells). They are naturally lean and the nutritional content of this meat is closer to Bison than feed-lot beef, and at a lesser cost than bison. And perhaps most importantly, the taste is what gourmet chefs crave to serve!

What Type of Cattle?
But aren't cattle bad for the environment?

The cattle we raise are smaller, extra active and hardy. This makes for an animal that doesn’t require feedlots, barns or all the other petroleum-based care that the regular big, slow beef breeds require.

Ranchers love to raise these cattle because they fit the land so well and thrive with little help from man. Their energy level and athletic ability allow them to easily range far from water and positively impact greater portions of their rangelands.Grasslands require the impact of large grazing animals to remain healthy, and these active cattle fit the bill perfectly. Furthermore, the proper management of cattle is known to reverse desertification, improve wildlife habitat, sequester carbon from the atmosphere and help watersheds provide clean, healthy water.
